HAPPY BLOG DAY. TO ME!
I'm approaching 364 blog posts; that's equivalent to one blog post/day for an entire year! I feel like a "little-Bear" whining all the time about not getting enough feedback when I know that the core group I write for read and comment regularly. The obvious solution seems to be to open my blog to the public.
I only had two reasons to privatize my blog:
- The first is to protect Heather's kids from online predators. This is easy to resolve. I've already searched through all my posts and not found any pictures and critical information associated with their names. Also, if I wanted to do something more personal for them, I can always use the family blog.
- The second reason was because I am a little afraid of internet trolls—some of my earlier posts were rather personal. I don't like being known. I don't know how evil minds work. I don't want to end up on some weirdo's radar. However, this shouldn't concern me too much. A lot of my friends have public blogs and they don't get stalked by trolls.
I have decided to put it to a vote. I will carefully read your arguments and opinions and then make my decision, as any good blog-dictator should.
Thanks for sharing any insights that I haven't yet thought of,
BRyAN
Okay, it's Tues 2/17 and the post I am reading says Thurs 2/19...dun dun, dun,dun- dun, duh, dun, dun... Two things to consider: as you said anything very personal like some of your weirder dreams can always go on the family blog; and though I think you should go public--you will ALWAYS have the tug 'o war on getting readers to comment. I have noticed you absolutely have to be committed to asking a very specific question that compels people to answer at the end of each post---or shame them into it somehow which makes everybody feel guilty! So-I'd open it up but don't raise your expectations much and you may be pleasantly surprised!
ReplyDeleteI say go public! You never know, you might enjoy the comments from strangers.
ReplyDeleteI guess this question is a moot point now, but I say public.
ReplyDeleteI think you should go public cuz you are an awesome blogger. I don't know anyone who blogs as much as you do and they're almost always entertaining to read. But you still may have that problem of getting comments unless you ask the questions at the end.
ReplyDeleteI can see the pros and cons of both sides, but from where I'm standing, all I can say is that your blog has brought much joy to my life--just imagine what it could do to others. :) Just be careful, going public is a different game.
ReplyDeleteGlad you went public!
