AIDA: Another "Chick" Show

Things I liked about Hale Theater's production of Aida: 1. I enjoyed watching it with Liz Rinker and Amanda Bement from the ward. 2. They gave me the best seat of the ones we had. It provided ample leg room. 3. The costumes and staging were excellent. 4. I was nice and warm the whole time in my new North Face jacket. 5. By attending, I was able to support a fellow ward member who was one of the actors. 6. The token gay guy played his part to flamboyant perfection. 7. The male dancers were a hoot. 8. I finally know the plot of this classic, Egyptian musical. 9. I was able to run into a lot of school friends that I hadn't seen in a while. Things I didn't like about the production: 1. I felt uncomfortable listening to Sir Elton John's style of music in an Egyptian setting. 2. Aida had a lisp. Also, I was continually distracted by the question of how old she was. She had the 5'2" body of a 20 year old, but the experienced face of a 40 year old. (It ...

Dream Update: Mexican Birthday Party (November 13, 2008)

Dream (Skipping the first half of the dream) I found myself exercising in Redmond, WA. I decided to run on a circular track around the residential streets surrounding Meadow Park. The only thing covering me was a hand towel for my front front and a matching wash cloth tucked into the hand towel for my back. As I ran up east side Meadow Park hill there appeared to be a major drug bust going on or something because the streets were swimming with cops. I acted casual and they didn't seem to even notice me as they converged upon a single location with weapons drawn. Once the shooting started however, I decided it would be wise to turn around jog back to I made it back to my car that was parked along a side neighborhood and took it flying off of education hill around 116th and the Hilton's house. There was a secret, makeshift ramp built of dirt that I used to fly hundreds of yards (if not miles) through the air into an arid swampland that I didn't even know existed. ...

Dancing Queen in Complete Surround Sound

Against my better judgment, I went to the dollar theater to see Mamma Mia with some girl friends. I felt like my manhood shriveled up within the first 10 minutes of the show. EVERYTHING was catered to "girl-humor". The female characters on screen would make fun of themselves (in a way that only other women would find funny) and then they would make fun of the men in the same way. I was falling deeper and deeper into a cyclone of estrogen. There was one redeeming part during the movie. The first was during the song, "Dancing Queen". Up until that point, the theater sound had been cutting in and out. When Meryl Streep started singing though, the entire room filled with music. I could hear sound emitting from 200 speakers in addition to the ones mounted on the walls. EVERY SINGLE WOMAN IN THAT THEATER WAS SINGING ALONE WITH HER! Even the 80-year-old woman on my right was bouncing and swaying in her seat. (She had a surprisingly lucid voice.) From then on...

My Roommate, Brad Weinert is ENGAGED!

Brad and Elisse are perfect for each other. They are both tall. They are also easy-going and satisfied to be in one another's company. When I asked them for a photo for the blog they were like, "just take it. We're pretty laid back; we don't care what it looks like." One of my favorite memories of them (not necessarily together) was at one of Brad's flag football games. I sat on the sidelines and watched Elisse watch Brad; it was precious. The way she talked with her fellow female supporter about the boys on the field was hilarious to me. It was like the women were allowing the men work out their aggression on the field together on a seminal basis. May they find continued happiness. Together. On the couch. And other places too.

The Two New Jackets From Mom

The North Face Apex Bionic This one is the beautiful brown x-mas present from MOM. The Mountain Hardwear Alchemy This one was a steel on Ebay. I got it for less than half price. Unfortunately, the Med. in the store fit a lot better than this one. I'll probably sell it on Craigstlist and make a profit.
