Sleep Deprevation: Firefighter training?

I am tired. My sleep rhythms are messed up. But maybe I can make the most of it. Here's what's been going through my mind: --I was pretty shocked when I found out that firefighters pull 24 hour shifts. I had always told myself that I could never be a doctor for that very reason. Then since my interview, I have had the most difficult time fall asleep at nights. Maybe my body was just trying to prove to me that I could do it? --To assuage the restless nights last week, I would find myself at the gym at 2am to swim and run and lift weights. (I didn't like that one bit because all the weirdos come out that late. But what alternative did I have? I would just lie in bed, listen to my Ipod, watch a movie. I tried not to use my computer since I was the only one up.) --This week, I have shifted to 5am gym. I'll stay up until my last roommate goes to bed at 3am and then just lie in bed. I noticed, from the sounds coming from upstairs, that Nate Reese stays up all...

Dream Journal: Tragedy in Cambodia (March 12, 2008)

Our family was on one our epic, international vacations when we took a deviation from the rest of the group and visited an area near Cambodia, famous for its habitation by Quakers and talking animals. Upon leaving the Cambodian airport, we noticed that there were no cars to be found; we were force to walk everywhere. None of the guide books said anything about that! We walked for miles and miles, crossing cross-walks that were the length of football fields. The trick was to make it across before the walking man disappeared. In Cambodia, the traffic [from trains] just plow through intersections as soon as the red hand begins flashing. This wasn't as distressing as it was for the small children with us as it was for the older vacationers, like BG. Once we made it out of the city, we began to see endless fields of swampy farm areas. There was just a single road that passed along the edge of the fields. At a certain point on the road, the pavement turned to gravel and the g...

How Shall I Let a Girl Down Gently?

There are actually 2 girls in the ward who are currently wanting a piece of The B-Tan. I am not particularly interested in either of them. Kat, one of the girls who bought Stef's contract in M7, is hoping I'll make a move. She has been putting out some signs so obvious that even I am picking them up. Last week, our FHE group filmed a short melodrama video which their apartment rigged so that I played the part of the good cowboy and she was the damsel in distress. The director ensured that we had more than one lovely-dovey scene. Since then, the trail of love has been cold. It would be easy to wait it out and hope she gives up on account of attrition. Should I talk talk to her? Ananda, red haired bookworm who studied Irish dance IN IRELAND, has also shown some interest this past week. I told her roommate a month ago that I had no interest in Ananda, but if she asked me out, I wouldn't tell her no. Well, last week, I made a remark during dinner group while one of her ...
