First Impressions at Grad School

*Before I say anything else...isn't it beautiful in Logan?! I've officially been in Logan for 24 hours and each new hour imbues me with greater excitement and confidence that the next 18 months are going to be some of the greatest and most challenging of my life. Today was the first of a two days orientation for my grad program, Instructional Technology and Learning Sciences . We were first introduced to the entire IT&LS faculty and fellow cohorts. As we each took turns presenting ourselves, I was struck by the overwhelming feeling of confirmation that I was in the right place. I had chosen the right school and I had chosen the right program for me. Although I toted less applicable skills to the program than my peers coming from a background in Latin American Studies, I still felt that we were all similar in our ultimate goals and ambitions. I came to the realization that graduate studies are not like undergraduate studies. Allow me to delineate some of the dif...

Frisbee Golf at UVU

UVU just finished upgrading their Frisbee Disk Golf Course from a 13-hole course to a full 18-hole course. Each of the holes are par 2. I typically shot boggie for each of the holes. Nate Huntsman was the true champ that day. He scored 10 strokes beneath the rest of us. I am also grateful to him and his brother Matt for talking me into wading into the UVU pond to retrieve a lost frisbee disk. This is my first legit frisbee disk. It took me a good 20 minutes to rub off the name and phone number of its previous owner. For those of you who are judging me right now, thinking to yourselves that I just thieved that frisbee from some poor guy, think again. It is not "frisbee golf etiquette" to return lost frisbees. When you throw one into the woods and don't retrieve it, it becomes free game. Over 50% of Nate's many frisbees have various names written on them. Finding one is like your right of passage into the world of frisbee golf. It was that day, that I...

Is Dave there?

Last Friday night, I was going to climb Mt. Timp at 3AM. Unfortunately, we canceled because of weather. The more unfortunate thing was that I took a 5 hour nap earlier that evening in preparation for the "to-be-canceled" hike. Ryan Tripp and I finished a game of frisbee golf at around 1am. From there, the evening's activities degraded into something that resembled "Creepos hanging out in front of girls' apartments." This is a picture of what happens when a bunch of guys are wired after 2 in the morning: p.s. Sorry Shawna and apt. for any inconvenience this many have caused you in the morning.
