Pets of Carriage Cove

My Frog Known as Logan

[Named after Wolverine because of his obstinance and constantly deployed claws.] - This daring adventurer managed to leap of two heavily convexed bowls and around the apartment for hours before anyone noticed. The first time was a month ago. He leaped out of the giant fish bowl when the lights went out. Fortunately, I was still awake at 2am when he hopped into my room. I was watching a show about dangerous animals on the History Channel when out of the corner of my eye, I caught sight of a creepy thing smashing itself against my dresser. His amphibious body was no longer wet but covered in fuzz like a used sticky-hand one gets out of a toy dispenser. I quickly threw him into a fresh bowl of water and the filth dispersed across the surface. Once he cleaned himself up a bit, I put him in smaller, more curved bowl.

Logan made his second successful escape yesterday afternoon. I still don't know how he did it. I first noticed Logan's disappearance while preparing to have some friends over for dinner. Brian and I checked every corner of the apartment searching for a hint of evidence pointing toward Logan's trail, but to no avail. He probably made it outside, I thought to myself. My hope of ever seeing Logan again [alive] hovered around 2% for the rest of the evening. I went to the gym later that night. When I returned home around midnight, I found a sticky note on the counter that said, "LOGAN LIVES!" I found out later, that Brian found him by the kitchen trash bin when he came out to get a drink of water. Logan has suffered some superficial injuries and was still covering in hair, but I think he will regenerate quickly. To ensure that he doesn't escape again, I've covered his bowl with cellophane.

Norman The Strong

The day I thought I had lost Logan forever, Norman, one of my larger goldfish, suddenly revealed stroke symptoms and started floating on his side near the surface of his bowl. Great! Two dead pets in one day! It's been 30 hours now, and he is maintaining shallow breathing at various depths. He refuses to eat but is receptive to stimulus outside his bowl. [I segregated him so that the other goldfish didn't think it would be cool to die too.]

The Other Fish

Brain, Thing 1 and 2 and Xray are still as active and hungry as ever. This is the first time they've all shared the same bowl. I think they like it. I even put Logan in with them for a bit while I was cleaning his smaller bowl and all the fish ganged up on him and tried to suck on his toes.

  5. In my mind the question really is: why is Logan so anxious to leave his present circumstances? Is it because he,being amphibious, needs to have some kind of island to rest on before he exercises aquatically again? Mabye he isn't strong enough to swim 100% of the time...at first, I thought he was a fish and I was really freaked out! I thought maybe I'd be able to see Jesus in His image if I looked closely enough.

Rummi-"CUB" vs. Rummi-"CUBE"

The "Rummikub" Pronunciation Debate Affirmative Constructive: "Cub" For years, I have been a firm advocate and defender of the pronunciation, Rummi-"CUB".  The game box I grew up with spelled it, Rummicub  on the box. However, other productions of the game have variant spellings: Rummykub , Rummy Kube , Rummy Tiles , etc.  Based solely on box spelling, the game's true pronunciation is open to interpretation. Therefore, Rummi"cub" is equally acceptable to any other given pronunciation. Negative  Constructive : "Cube" My opponents argue that since the game originated over seas, we ought to respect and maintain its original pronunciation. Affirmative Rebuttal: Americanization of the Term When the game was brought to America and given Americanized rules, its name was also Americanized. Pronunciation loyalists then counter my rebuttal with, "there are lots of adopted foreign words that have retained their original pron...

The Secret Reason Why "Good Witch" Feels Emotionally Off

TL;DR It's the Botox. For the past 3 months, my wife, Stacia, and I have been watching  Good Witch  (via Netflix and Amazon Prime). Stacia adores winding down to "Hallmark-y shows." We can rely on Good Witch episodes to always resolve happily. The episodes are never too intense. The height of conflict revolves around things like someone's inability to locate the perfect spot to snap a romantic photo for a new tourism brochure. I consider my time watching these shows spouse bonding time , and emotional training. My favorite thing about watching feel-good shows with Stacia is getting to observe her facial reactions to the on-screen drama. When two people lean in for a long-anticipated kiss, Stacia tucks her knees into her chest and frowns with her forehead while lifting her chin and bottom lip. While I'm typically unable to suspend my disbelief, Stacia seems completely entranced by the various characters' emotions. Wishing I could join her in being swept aw...

Who's Got The Funk?

I am an amateur guitarist, and I've got no funk. My musical skills seem to lacking that special something . Great musicians have it . Those fortunate enough to have gotten hold of  it , create timeless hits. While musicians without it  fade into oblivion. After spending hours searching through Blues history websites and 1970's band documentaries online, I discovered what that special something  is thank to a (70% Man, 30% fish) character from the BBC show "The Mighty Boosh" named Old Gregg. He identified that  thing  as  The Funk ! But what exactly is The Funk ? Here is some dialogue from the show to help explain its origin and purpose: Old Gregg: You're a musician, yeah? Howard: Yes I am. Old Gregg: Butchya ain't very good, are ya? Howard: I'm one of the best in town. Old Gregg: Come on, I read your reviews. Hmm? You know what your problem is? Howard: What? Old Gregg: Ya ain't got the funk. You're all rigid. Hmm? You're l...
