Our lesson for the third hour of church today was on Repentance. Our teacher gave a refreshing look at how God calls to his children. The painting below is called Merciful Savior by a new LDS artist,Jared Barnes
Many times, especially in the OT, God comes off as a vengeful and violent Being.
What God is really saying in these verses is that he loves us as a perfect father and is pleading with us to come back to Him. With a broken heart, he warns us of the consequences of choosing other paths. He wants for us to be happy and to find salvation through applying the Atonement.
It is important for me to always remember that Heavenly Father is a eternally patient and merciful God whose arms are continually outstretched in my behalf.
If I ever lost sight of this I would become uber-depressed and resign myself to everlasting stagnation.

Ezek. 38: 22
And I will plead against him with pestilence and with blood; and I will rain upon him, and upon his bands, and upon the many people that are with him, an overflowing rain, and great hailstones, fire, and brimstone.

Jacob 3: 11
O my brethren, hearken unto my words; arouse the faculties of your souls; shake yourselves that ye may awake from the slumber of death; and loose yourselves from the pains of hell that ye may not become angels to the devil, to be cast into that lake of fire and brimstone which is the second death.
It is important for me to always remember that Heavenly Father is a eternally patient and merciful God whose arms are continually outstretched in my behalf.
2 Ne. 1: 15
But behold, the Lord hath redeemed my soul from hell; I have beheld his glory, and I am encircled about eternally in the arms of his love.
If I ever lost sight of this I would become uber-depressed and resign myself to everlasting stagnation.
There are so many really cool insights to be gained from the Old Testament! I am anxious to go through it with the Insitute manual and figure some of the cultural/historical stuff out so I can gain greater spiritual insights! Loved solving the puzzle (Rubik's!) and yes on Crystal!
ReplyDeleteThat encircling in the arms of love is such a powerful image to me. Thanks for your thoughts.
ReplyDeleteIt is so fascinating to read the OT with our perspective of God. I am so grateful that he is merciful and loving. He truly will bless us and is aware of all we do.
