The 18-Hole, Justin C. Wheeler Memorial Carriage Cove Ultimate Frisbee Golf Course

Special thanks to my good friends Ryan Tripp, Brian Zundel, David Cox, Mike Zimmerman for helping to create and christen Provo's NEWEST urban frisbee golf course. In fare weather, it takes about an hour each to play, both, the front and back nine holes of the course. We took special measures to design a course that would protect cars and swimmers from stray throws. We hope you enjoy it.

Rules

  1. Order of Tee is decided by the lowest score on the previous hole.
  2. If the insides of apartments used in the holes are not available, just use their doormat.
  3. When throwing, throw from behind where your frisbee landed with respect to the direction you are about to throw it next.
  4. Your frisbee must be thrown from a controlled position; no jumping or leaning against objects.
  5. Out of Bounds (OB) is an automatic 1 stroke penalty and dropped perpendicular to the line of sight the hole on either side of you. Roof, sand, foreign balconies and the inside of the pool fence are all OB.
  6. If you throw it on a roof (OB), that is still only a 1 stroke penalty, but you must retrieve your own frisbee through the attic skylight access on the third floor of each building, even the clubhouse. The second floor of the clubhouse roof can be reached by exiting the window of the piano room.
  7. Any contact with a car or motorcycle is an automatic 2 stroke penalty. The rule is play is where it lies (unless you feel cars are still in danger).

Hole Explanations

Hole 1 - Don't hit the roof [par 5]
Back bathroom of 221 (or 224) to Balcony of 328 (or 228, or 226, or 326).
*Option: Start from the parking lot sidewalk in front of building 7 [par 3].

Hole 2 - Foxy-Fox Hole "Formerly known as: The Serpentine" [par 4]
Balcony of 328 to Balcony of 215.
*Option: Hole on the 2/3rd floor balcony of building 5 [par 4].

Hole 3 - Ping Pong Putt [par 4]
Balcony of 215 to the top of the Club House Ping-Pong table.

Hole 4 - The Dragon's Mouth [par 3]
Back of the Ping-Pong table to the inside of Dryer 58.
*You can throw into the laundry room from either entrance. If 58 is unavailable, then use the one above it.

Hole 5 - Nothing But Net [par 7]
Dryer 58 to the basketball hoop.
*Remember, water hazards, roofs and sand are 1 stroke penalties.

Hole 6 - No "Solicitating" [par 4]
Cement slap housing the basketball hoop to the door mat of apartment 206.

Hole 7 - The Co Co Hole [par 4]
From behind the North plane of apartment 206's doorway to Cox's couch, outside 225. Must land and rest on the couch.

Hole 8 - Fryn' Frisbees [par 3]
From the 1st floor corridor of building 7, through the building, to the inside of the BBQ grill on the patio between buildings 4 & 7. The frisbee must come to rest on the actual grill.

Hole 9- The Hot Pot [par 3]
The NE cement square of the patio to the inside of the hot tub.
*Option if you are only playing 9 holes and you want a challenge: Must go around the parameter of the pool fence. Same rules as hole 11, but the invisible standards are reversed to be the Western corners of the fence [par 5].

*At this point, you can relax in the hot tub or continue playing.

Hole 10 - Meet New Girls [par 4]
Behind the stump next to the hot tub to the doormat of 301 in Building 1.
*Variation: change up the apartment doorway you throw to in order to meet new girls. It would be considerate to ring or knock on their door to thank them for letting you use their doorway as a hole.

Hole 11 - The Liberty Bell [par 4]
The West landing between the 2nd and 3rd floor of building 1, through the 1st floor hallway and ding the flag pole with the frisbee.

Hole 12 - There & Back Again [par 6]
Around the pool clockwise. You cannot cut the two eastern lamp posts on the outside of the fence. If the frisbee crosses one of the planes or lands inside the fence, there is a one stoke penalty and the frisbee is dropped just inbounds. The hole is, once again, dinging the flag pole.

Hole 13 - Tower Power [Par 3]
From the cement foundation of the flag pole to on top of the green electrical box just east of the basketball hoop.

Hole 14 - Shoot for Tu or "Somebody's going to hit a car" [Par 4]
From behind the power box through the narrow corridor of building 9 to the SW corner of Tu's apartment patio, #136.

Hole 15 - The Devil's Landing [Par 3]
From behind the West plane of Tu's patio to the East 2nd/3rd floor landing of building 10.

Hole 16 - Triforce/Fairway to Heaven [Par 5]
From the 2nd/3rd floor landing, around the North side of the clubhouse, through the patio of buildings 4 & 7 onto the triangular patch of grass before the North/South walkway. You can go on either side of the pool.

Hole 17 - 3D "Dirty Dumpster Diving" [Par 4]
From the triangle through building 6 corridor to the dumpster into the NE dumpster of the Carriage Cove parking lot. *Far East/West fence is OB, but over the North/South fence is playable. The player with the highest score on the hole gets to fish the frisbees out of the dumpster.

Hole 18 - Triple T Combo "Trash To Tub" [Par 5]
Just South of the NE garbage dumpster, through the balcony, to the back bathtub of 224. The purpose of this is to finish where you started. If you wish to finish the course on some other doormat or in some other bathroom, that's fine. *Must be thrown above the shower curtain rack. The shower curtain, proper, should be draped outside of the tub so there is a chance for frisbees to go "in and out."

*Return to "The Club House" for refreshment and boasting. MEMBERS ONLY!

Rummi-"CUB" vs. Rummi-"CUBE"

The "Rummikub" Pronunciation Debate Affirmative Constructive: "Cub" For years, I have been a firm advocate and defender of the pronunciation, Rummi-"CUB".  The game box I grew up with spelled it, Rummicub  on the box. However, other productions of the game have variant spellings: Rummykub , Rummy Kube , Rummy Tiles , etc.  Based solely on box spelling, the game's true pronunciation is open to interpretation. Therefore, Rummi"cub" is equally acceptable to any other given pronunciation. Negative  Constructive : "Cube" My opponents argue that since the game originated over seas, we ought to respect and maintain its original pronunciation. Affirmative Rebuttal: Americanization of the Term When the game was brought to America and given Americanized rules, its name was also Americanized. Pronunciation loyalists then counter my rebuttal with, "there are lots of adopted foreign words that have retained their original pron

The Secret Reason Why "Good Witch" Feels Emotionally Off

TL;DR It's the Botox. For the past 3 months, my wife, Stacia, and I have been watching  Good Witch  (via Netflix and Amazon Prime). Stacia adores winding down to "Hallmark-y shows." We can rely on Good Witch episodes to always resolve happily. The episodes are never too intense. The height of conflict revolves around things like someone's inability to locate the perfect spot to snap a romantic photo for a new tourism brochure. I consider my time watching these shows spouse bonding time , and emotional training. My favorite thing about watching feel-good shows with Stacia is getting to observe her facial reactions to the on-screen drama. When two people lean in for a long-anticipated kiss, Stacia tucks her knees into her chest and frowns with her forehead while lifting her chin and bottom lip. While I'm typically unable to suspend my disbelief, Stacia seems completely entranced by the various characters' emotions. Wishing I could join her in being swept aw

Who's Got The Funk?

I am an amateur guitarist, and I've got no funk. My musical skills seem to lacking that special something . Great musicians have it . Those fortunate enough to have gotten hold of  it , create timeless hits. While musicians without it  fade into oblivion. After spending hours searching through Blues history websites and 1970's band documentaries online, I discovered what that special something  is thank to a (70% Man, 30% fish) character from the BBC show "The Mighty Boosh" named Old Gregg. He identified that  thing  as  The Funk ! But what exactly is The Funk ? Here is some dialogue from the show to help explain its origin and purpose: Old Gregg: You're a musician, yeah? Howard: Yes I am. Old Gregg: Butchya ain't very good, are ya? Howard: I'm one of the best in town. Old Gregg: Come on, I read your reviews. Hmm? You know what your problem is? Howard: What? Old Gregg: Ya ain't got the funk. You're all rigid. Hmm? You're l
