Raptors have truly brought my family closer together.
Jurassic park was one my family's favorite movies growing up because it had such intense music. We loved to pump up the sound in our TV room and experience the film in complete surround sound. The scariest part was when the raptors were hunting in the kitchen. With Dolby 5.1 surround sound, I remember thinking that the raptors were actually lurking around the sides of the sofas.
While I was on my mission, Rick Whitehead became a part of our family. There is always a pivotal moment, or turning point if you will, for new family members to acclimatize and stop feeling like an outsider. Rick's moment, for many of us, involved his impression of a velociraptor. I saw the video after coming home; it was pretty incredible. Apparently, the family each took turns, for over an hour, stepping outside the room and then invited back in as a raptor with by hearing the words, "they can open doors you know."
Like the raptor in the underground power station, My sisters and I have always took morbid delight in jumping out and scaring one another. I always pretended to be be a velociraptor. After a little while, I didn't even need to snarl, I'd just poke my nose out of a closet or dark hallway and frighten the living daylights out of my victims. I awarded myself one point if I got my victim to freeze in fear (more scared than a small scream). Two points if they let out a truly horrifying scream. And three points if they wet their pants. (Mom didn't let me scare her.)
Best YouTube impression for Raptor:
You forgot one of the best parts. When Dad came out as a raptor, he jumped on a kitchen chair and broke it! Great post.
ReplyDeleteThat was one of the funniest Christmas memories ever, too bad it was so embarrassing for Rick. For "Bill's" initiation we just made him eat Bertie Botts and crack eggs on his head....
ReplyDeleteBill? Who's Bill? Ya mean, oh yeah, I just remembered! :) Rick joining the family was the best part of your post! I still can't believe we went on for so long with that activity. I thought you were going to change into your second set, Bry. Fun memory-dad and I laughed over this together!
