Sometimes artistic creativity strikes at weird times. I wrote this love song in the middle of Sacrament Meeting last week. As far as I remember, it had nothing to do with what was going on at church. I don't remember exactly who was speaking; it was either my friend, Kristen, who spoke on how gospel-living yields happiness or it was something that my former home teacher, Brian Zundel, said regarding charity. I know these lyrics are pretty cliché and mushy, but I had to get it out.
If you would just say, "yes"
I would fall in love today
Unearth my roots and plant them close to yours
If you would say "yes" to me
I'd leave my doubts behind
I would give my life to fill your heart with joy
But time drags us apart
on relentless waves
bound for different seas
Only now, now that we're apart,
I understand why
Friendship plagued our seeds of love
You could not let your heart be free
As long as your sister still loved me…
So do we wait this out, or should we *do her in
Will fate steal what's ours to make
Can we find a way to be as one
I think we could make it happen
If you would just say, yes
*Due to not wanting to be conceived of as a "creepy, murderous, stalker", I feel to inform you that the last verse is meant to be a joke, which you would get if there were music to accompany the lyrics. It supports the whole "fill your days with laughter" idea from the verse before. (You guys are sickos for thinking I was a sicko.)

Wow Bryan, very nice! I could never write a song like that, you are quite the poet, even if you do it in Sacrament meeting. Is it about anyone particular???
ReplyDeleteI like the song a lot. Although, it sounds a bit like you're going to do in someone's mother or sister very soon....
ReplyDeleteDitto, Evie! It starts out so beautiful and then flows into this slightly psychotic wave that was a bit disturbing!
ReplyDeleteI really like these lyrics! I love cliche lyrics, they are my favorite. You have talent my friend.
ReplyDeleteI agree that the end gets a bit weird for me, but great job recording your lyrics. You can always tweak.
ReplyDeleteOkay, I've recovered and realize your dry humor is just tongue in cheek-metaphorically speaking get the other girl/guy out of the picture. Do you have any melodies in your head to go with it?
ReplyDeleteI love your multi-tasking abilities and your genius. I'm impressed that you wrote all of this during one sacrament meeting--NICE. When do we get to HEAR it??? :)
