Review Update
Here's a review from January 2014 after seeing these five shows:
- I loved Legend of Korra. I watched them all online the week they aired. It was the only one of the five that I followed regularly.
- Sleepy Hollow and S.H.I.E.L.D. were both charming stories—the next most entertaining shows after Korra. However, neither story had enough substance, or character relate-ability, to hold my attention after the first three episodes. I might try again later.
- Person of Interest could have been cool. Maybe I didn't give it a fair chance, but I quit watching after the season premiere. I think I wanted it to slow down a little bit and show us more character development. The trope of having Jim Caviezel strut around New York, shooting everyone, and saving the day is becoming a little stale for me.
- Dragons: Defenders/Riders of Berk is already in its second season! And I haven't seen it yet. Not one else I know watches it, so I wouldn't have anyone to talk about it with. I'll definitely come back to it when the opportunity arises. (Free episodes.)
(Sept. 10, Cartoon Network) If you are already anticipating the sequel to How To Train Your Dragon, like me, then this show is a must see. There's speculation that this season will do a lot to bridge the five-year gap between the movies, the second of which arrives in 2014.
Avatar: The Legend of Korra
(Sept. 13, Nickelodeon)
Things we can anticipate in this second season: We're exploring the spirit world, and seeing more of the world outside Republic City. And we're going to meet the first ever Avatar! The story will not compare to that of The Last Airbender, the artwork will be markedly better!
(Sept. 16, Fox) - New Series
A new show from the writers and producers of Star Trek can't be bad! Based on the trailers, I'd say this show will likely be a sci-fied mashup of Elementary and National Treasure.
(Sept. 24, ABC) - New Series
Still mad at Joss Whedon for killing off Agent Phil Coulson in Avengers? Well, this show is his apology to you. Here's a spoiler-free review of the first episode from i09.
(Sept. 24, CBS)
I had written this show off after season one. It was a fun story while it lasted, but it had ultimately lost my interest. AND THEN THE NSA SCANDAL BROKE! Suddenly, the issue domestic surveillance became important to me again. (Not to mention, Sarah Shahi and Amy Acker will both play major roles in this third season.)
