Will there ever be a sequel to the timeless cult classic, The Goonies.
Director and writer, Spielberg and Donner, have been debating with Warner Brothers for over 2 decades now on whether or not they ought to make a sequel to Goonies. It was close to happening in 2009; Sean Austin and the actors who played the characters, Data and Chunk, all reported that it was a sure thing when asked. But now, the idea has returned to the idea cloud.
The bottom line is that WB executives want to push something 2nd-rate through production, but those who still have close feelings for the original don't want the sequel to ruin its memory. And we all know, that is a very easy thing to do.
This sequel to the '80s flick was supposed to find the original stars of the first film reuniting 20 years later (along with their kids) to solve a new mystery.
As for me, even though I am terribly fond of the original film, I'm rather glad they aren't going to go through with it. (It would be kind of weird to see a grown-up Chunk do the truffle Shuffle.)

p.s. A funny bit of trivia is that two years, in 1987, after the release of the original Goonies, "Goonies II" was released, in video game form.
Oh man, that is a great picture, I can't believe how different they all look! I can't believe that was really made 20 + years ago. I'd probably rather they don't remake it as well.
ReplyDeleteWho is the old guy?
ReplyDeleteNo-go on the remake. Let's cherish the memories, and remember Sean Astin for his best role: Samwise. Or potentially the little boy in white water summer.
ReplyDeleteThe old guy in back is Sloth.
ReplyDeleteNo Goonies REvisited! Kids are kids and adults are just adults. Whole different scene!
ReplyDeletePlease no remake. I love the original.
