There He Goes Again, Comforting Away!


3 Nephi 13:31-34

In this scripture, the resurrected Lord is calming the anxious nerves of his newly called disciples.
31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?32 For your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow, for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient is the day unto the evil thereof.
The question I asked when reading this group of verses was this: "Once I decide on what I want for my life, how will I keep from chickening out or second guessing myself?"



The application in this case is apparent. When the time comes to make major changes in my lifestyle, such as, getting a new job, starting a grad program at a new University, getting married, etc., it will be quite natural to freak out. Like the disciples of old, I hope to receive confirmation of a chosen "calling" for my life. I pray that when that calling comes and I am left to my own devises to make my dreams become my reality, that I can have the same promise the Savior's disciples had:

That if I seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, all the essentials for living will fall into place--food, shelter, continued guidance.

    It's so beautiful there.

    As far as major decisions, I'd say:

    weigh it carefully, seek confirmation of the spirit and then throw yourself into your chosen path.

    Looking back with regret on what might have been is never the recipe for success or happiness.

    Light on the mountains is splendiferous! You are in a gorgeous spot! Marriage of course, is a crapshoot, as someone can make you believe whatever they want you to and you can have deep regrets; but anything else can be changed-you're not stuck forever, so we don't have to see mistakes as anything but learning opportunities! And with marriage, you will know- and if you don't, just ask the rest of us and we'll tell you!!! :)

    Bryan, compliments on a really great post with photos that inspire and words that open a window to the soul. Decisions are not easy, but they are necessary. Thanks for sharing the insight, tieing your thinking to the scripture and realizing that progress is yours to make.

    I read the last several posts (loved the memories of "Wax on Wax off") and am impressed at the thought and effort you put into the posts.

    Continue to create each day. Plunge into something productive to benefit society with some routine. Decide where you will be a year from now and go there. Those are my current thoughts. It will be great to see you in a few days. Love, Dad

Who's Got The Funk?

I am an amateur guitarist, and I've got no funk. My musical skills seem to lacking that special something . Great musicians have it . Those fortunate enough to have gotten hold of  it , create timeless hits. While musicians without it  fade into oblivion. After spending hours searching through Blues history websites and 1970's band documentaries online, I discovered what that special something  is thank to a (70% Man, 30% fish) character from the BBC show "The Mighty Boosh" named Old Gregg. He identified that  thing  as  The Funk ! But what exactly is The Funk ? Here is some dialogue from the show to help explain its origin and purpose: Old Gregg: You're a musician, yeah? The Hit Single *Bang!* by AJR is about Suicide

Introduction I listened to the lyrics to the AJR song,  BANG!  for the first time today and immediately noticed its connection to suicide. Curious why this wasn't obvious to more people, I googled it and discovered that I may be  one of the few people who think this way. I'm not crazy, right? Pexels.com Song Analysis Listen to the chorus: "Everybody come hang (come hang). Let's go out with a bang. Bang! Bang! Bang!" These repeated words brought to my mind a couple of terrifying statistics:  Suicide is the SECOND leading cause of death for college-age youth and youth ages 12-18 ( CDC WISQARS ) The two leading methods of suicide (in high-income countries) are hanging and firearms ( The Parent Resource Program ). As I continued to examine the song lyrics, I realized EVERYTHING about the song supported my interpretation. This radio hit doesn't necessarily glorify suicide.
