The Timex Ironman iControl

After 3 years of not wearing a wrist watch, I've finally broken down and found one that I love: This is a picture of the beauty right here . It's a Timex Ironman iControl--just my style. It's definitely a luxury item, which I usually don't go for, but I really feel like I'm going to get adequate mileage out of this one. In fact, there is a nice, little hole in the wristband right where my ulnar head protrudes; fits like a glove. What I like most about it is that I REALLY CAN CONTROL MY iPOD FROM MY WATCH! Now I can go the gym with my iPod in my pocket and change songs from my wrist. Technology is so cool. The one feature that I've had to get used to is that it is hard to press the buttons. It took me 3 hours and 53 minutes to figure out how to reset the stopwatch; I just had to press HARDER. It makes sense though, since it's a sports watch, I wouldn't want the buttons to be too responsive; otherwise, things would turn on and off with any jostling a...

Kenny G is an Awesome Guy

I guess meeting Kenny G is my third celebrity encounter. Interestingly, I've met him three times! Many of you were disappointed that I didn't get a photo with Kenny G last Christmas when Stef and I saw him in passing at the Sheridan Inn in Cincinnati. Well, one of the reasons why I didn't ask to have my picture taken with him is because I've already got one . (Obscure reference to a Monty Python and the Holy Grail, featuring John Cleese.) Anyway, I had the good fortune to hear Kenny play a charity concert at the Provo Tabernacle back in 2006. It just so happens that KG's niece, Camilyn Bacon, was in my ward at the Raintree Apts. So after his performance he drove over to meet her new fiancé, Jared, in his rented Lincoln Town Car. (He was only over for 20 minutes before he returned to his car to find a boot on it! Cami had to help him call up "The Towing Jerks Inc." to get it removed.) My impression of Kenny is that he is a genuinely outgoing...

The Funeral of Killer

Upon returning from the family gather at Snowbird last week, I found the limp body of my pet frog, Killer, in the front room. My favorite pet had died after 5 months of faithful friendship. Dan did me the service of lifting his body to the surface of the rock floor with my Coolaid stirrer instead of leaving him unnaturally wedged between the rocks and the bottom of the gallon-vase as he was originally found. We decided to hold a funeral for him Sunday afternoon. I invited only his closest friends. All of the roommates had a connection with him somehow. And Liz and Amanda went to IKEA to buy him curly bamboo. In fact, they were over once when thought Killer had really gotten himself into a pickle. He was WAY down at the bottom of the rocks and we were convinced that he was stuck. They were screaming and freaking out while I found the nearest kitchen utensil to dig him out, trying not to crush him in the process. Gratefully, he made it out. I think that was when L & A truly ...

The Utah Half (Ironman Triathlon)

Some of you already know, but some of you don't: I ran 13.1 miles on Saturday as the third leg in a "The Utah Half" . Check out that link for more details. The background image is the finish line that I sprinted. I woke up to a friend's phone message Saturday morning after getting home from the family reunion the night before. He said that his message that their runner got sick last night and they needed someone to run a 1/2 marathon that afternoon. I was planning to go running anyway that morning, so I said sure. This was a friend from my freshman year that I had kept in contact with just enough to remember his name was Christian Christensen. The fee was $99 for a relay team, but they didn't make me pay anything. I decided to warm up by running to Utah lake. When I showed up and Christian helped me get ready. He had already swam and most everyone else was already biking. I ran and stretched a little more to warm up and then...I was off along the Pr...
