I guess meeting Kenny G is my third celebrity encounter. Interestingly, I've met him three times!
Many of you were disappointed that I didn't get a photo with Kenny G last Christmas when Stef and I saw him in passing at the Sheridan Inn in Cincinnati.
Well, one of the reasons why I didn't ask to have my picture taken with him is because I've already got one. (Obscure reference to a Monty Python and the Holy Grail, featuring John Cleese.)
Anyway, I had the good fortune to hear Kenny play a charity concert at the Provo Tabernacle back in 2006. It just so happens that KG's niece, Camilyn Bacon, was in my ward at the Raintree Apts. So after his performance he drove over to meet her new fiancé, Jared, in his rented Lincoln Town Car. (He was only over for 20 minutes before he returned to his car to find a boot on it! Cami had to help him call up "The Towing Jerks Inc." to get it removed.)
My impression of Kenny is that he is a genuinely outgoing, people-person; "The Perfect Performer". He seems to really enjoy meeting people and sharing his talents with them. He even agreed to play me the chorus from my favorite song of his, "Girl from Ipanema." I remember being surprised at how tiny a man he was. He wore heeled shoes to make himself stand up a little taller, but it didn't help.
This is a picture of me trying to give him a triple combination that I found lying on the counter. He kindly refused explaining that he reads the BOM all the time in the various hotels he stays at. (I assume he means the Marriott.)

That was REALLY fun running into him on our Christmas adventure :) I did not know you already had a picture. Could you get any cooler? I think not...
ReplyDeleteThat was a great one Bry. So tell me, did they take off the boot for free since he was a celeb and all? I still think it's awesome you greeted him in the Sheridan with "Hey Kenny..."
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic post. I LOVE your celebrity encounter stories! Can't wait to hear the good news about work . . . I know you'll find something great.
ReplyDelete'Ow do you come up wit dem?! You really should do this for a living...Of course you already had a picture-now I understand completely! Never seen the French castle thing before: very funny! (I fart in your general direction!)
ReplyDeleteKenny G sounds like a very nice man, I'm glad you had a little contact with him. Fun to be around celebs and find out they are people just like us.
ReplyDeleteThat's a pretty awesome story. I didn't know he came to the Tabernacle, and his niece is a member?
ReplyDeleteThe Girl from Ipanema is not HIS song though, that's a very old Brazilian tune--great song.
