I needed pills to survive in space.
Somehow, no one needed spacesuits. By the year 2333, the world's population moved to space. After searching for another 500 years or so, mankind discovered and inhabited a distant planet with all the resources we required, save oxygen. We were, however, able to manufacture O2 on our new planet but not enough to sustain the entire population.
Recently, scientists developed a set of pills as a makeshift solution to our predicament. The first pill enables space travelers to make maximum use of the oxygen carried by the blood to the body's cells. In other words, someone who used to be able to hold their breath for 30 seconds could now essentially hold it for 30 hours. The second pill slowed the heart while stimulating receptors on the nerves and muscles so that the body could perform normal tasks with minimal blood flow.
I fell in with a pair of illegal card gamblers and convinced them to continue to supply me with pills--as long as our card game continued.
We were constantly on the run from the law, but somehow we managed to keep the game going. Sometimes we played in seas of pink liquid, which we called water. Other times, we hid out in weapon silos and nitrogen ducts [nitrogen was used in the creation process of oxygen.] All the while, we held our breaths. I loved the drama that accompanied the silent card games. Each players' eyes communicated much more than any verbal communication ever could; it was great!
...later on in the dream, I lost the gamblers and was forced to rely on a new source for my pills. Too bad I can't remember any more...

Huh. And I just dream that I'm in the same class as my students. :)
ReplyDeleteSounds like Wall-E. Mebbe you can invent said pills.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh. How do you remember so many details!? Your brain is sure wired differently from mine!
ReplyDeleteNo wonder you're tired more than the average human unit.
