SOLO TRIATHLON SATURDAY


I completed a Triathlon today. I use the term "Triathlon" loosely. A Triathlon, according to Wikipedia, is "an endurance sports event consisting of swimming, cycling and running over various distances." Therefore, different types of triathlons have developed over the years ranging from super, super short ones for kids called,"Kid of Steel" or "Ironkid", to the granddaddy of the triathlon family, "The Ironman Triathlon" Yep. 2.4 mi swim, 112 bike, and 26.2 mi run. Insane!

I did a medium-short version called a Sprint Triathlon. This includes a 750m (0.5 mi) swim at 24-Hour-Fitness, then a 20km (12.4 mi) bike ride to Utah Lake and back up the Provo River Trail, and finally a 5km (3.1 mi) run up and around Campus. The crazy thing was that I barely even sweat at all. And I know what you're thinking--no, I wasn't dehydrated. I feel fine. The weather helped a lot. It was hazy/overcast and really windy--good for air drying my pits.

After it I finished down by the tennis courts, the men's tennis team happened to be playing their final match of the year. I stayed and watched. Sister Larson, one of my good friends from the MTC and Seminary teaching, was there and we watched together as BYU dominated UCSB. We won both the doubles point and swept the singles matches! The team and fans were ecstatic! Feeling a little saucy myself, I went up to the team manager and told him about how I just "won" a triathlon and asked him for a prize. He came back a moment later with a matching set of white US Open wrist bands!

I AM THE CHAMPION!

    You are a stud muffin. What an athlete. I doubt I could do a triathlon even if I TRAINED for it. Congrats on the wrist band awards too!

Werewolves: Variation on Mafia, the Group Game

I was first introduced to Mafia in 1995 at a Family Home Evening activity. With only 6-players in our family, we selected one Narrator, two Mafia gangsters (murder one person/night), one Detective (ask the narrator about the identity of one person/round), and sometimes we played with a Guardian Angel (who can save one person/round); everyone else were innocent citizens. Who's Got The Funk?

I am an amateur guitarist. I've got no funk. And I’m pretty crossed up about it. In my personal quest to discover the funk I came across this bit featuring Old Gregg from The Mighty Boosh. Old Gregg observed that some groups have it for a time, and when they do, they produce timeless hits. He identified that special  something as  The Funk ! But what exactly is The Funk ?
