Dream Journal: Poker at Sports Authority (December 16, 2008)

PART I - This dream was vivid, like the rest. But this time, I only included chunks of the detailed dream in this account. Tell me, do you prefer to have the full dream in summary or chunky details? I went in and began to browse. The first thing that caught my eye was a super discounted Speedo on the sales rack (Size M). $15.95?! That's outlandish! Then my eyes raced to some boots that looked like they were from outer space (very cool). On the other side, I was drawn to a snazzy, brown jacket (similar to the one I already have). The sales man was closing up. Asked me what I was looking at. Took my items downstairs and told me, there may be something we can do about the price on these items. Not wanting to miss a deal I followed him. Soon, all the racks were taken down by store employees and the remaining shoppers were ushered to tables situated around the room. We were being made card carrying members of Sports Authority. In order to qualify for the card we had to...

Anime Music is Epic

Here are samples from 2 of my favorite Japanese Animation movie soundtracks: *Download all six songs by clicking this Mediafire link: Anime Folder Princess Mononoke: Combined with beautiful vistas depicted in traditional Japanese style, this music transcends the movie watching experience and takes the viewer to a tranquil paradise of culture and symbolism. 1. The Tale of Ashitaka 2. Princess Mononoke 3. Departure to the West Spirited Away: This soundtrack is much more down to earth. The film comes off as a playful children's story but has serious underlying life lessons for viewers of all ages. 1. Ano hi no Kawa E 2. Abura ya 3. Samishii Samishii

My First Photoshop Personal Creations

I'm a beginner at Photoshop manipulations. When I saw this image, I had to make a demotivational poster of this classic wedding proposal: I thought this woman's face was priceless. Too many thoughts going on though; the connected thought clouds causes humor loss.

Marvelous Physical Abnormalities of the Human Body

*These photos may offend some due to their carnal nature. For me, everyone's body is sacred; a gift from God. Still, I can't help but give special attention to the unique abnormalities in society. In some cases, it is a celebration of life. In other cases, these abnormalities are just, plain funny. Bottom line, I won't feel bad if you choose to skip this post. 1. Relaxed. 2. Flexed. 3. There's got to be some motivational story behind this guy's life. But I can't see it from looking at this picture. This poor guy is just setting himself up for failure. (I think I need a video. Maybe he stands a chance.)  Regardless. I marvel at how he does he does it everyday? Some may think him foolish. But for me, this picture is truly inspirational. 4. This girl seriously has no bellybutton. Maybe it's just the lighting; I'm honestly not sure. Is this anomaly natural, cosmetic or photoshopped?

There He Goes Again, Comforting Away!

3 Nephi 13:31-34 In this scripture, the resurrected Lord is calming the anxious nerves of his newly called disciples. 31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? 32 For your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. 33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you. 34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow, for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient is the day unto the evil thereof. The question I asked when reading this group of verses was this: "Once I decide on what I want for my life, how will I keep from chickening out or second guessing myself?" The application in this case is apparent. When the time comes to make major changes in my lifestyle, such as, getting a new job, starting a grad program at a new University, getting married, etc., it will be quite natural to freak o...

Terrible Terry Tate, Office Linebacker

I just found out that Terry Tate is a fictional character ! He never played for the NFL at all! Tate's real name is Lester Speight . He played a stint of division 1 college football in the 80's, but then turned Pro Wrestler, and then turned actor . His work is featured in famous movies, TV shows, and even video games. Regardless of him being a fictional character, he is still one of my favorite football players of all time. Here is a clip (edited for language) of his debut appearance at Filtcher & Sons, Inc. (There were 9 clips made in total.)

Don't be the Mustard

I'm surprised no one has told The Mustard story yet. I'll do my best to do it justice, but I expect you all to correct me or add details when I get the story wrong. I will correct the blog entry as need be. This is the way I remember Mom and Dad's classic FHE lesson: PROLOGUE: There was a problem in the family with individuals rebelling against what the parental units had planned for our family. It could have been me; I remember being threatened with the consequence of not going to the zoo with the rest of the family if I didn't finish eating my sandwich. (I don't recall whether I was allowed to "finish it in the car" or whether I was left at home for hours.) At any rate, it was clear that we needed a lesson on how our personal actions affected the rest of the family. THE LESSON: It was an emotionally charged FHE. Dad informed us with a smile that we would have an EXTRA special treat that night. We would either rush through the FHE lesson...

US involvement in Pakistan--Intelligent Students

* See India's 9/11 for more on what's going on in Pakistan. President Bush went to a school to interact with the children. After a brief talk with the children he asked them if they had any question to ask him. One boy raised his hand and stood up; Bush: what's your name John: john Bush: whats your question? John: Sir, I have three questions 1) Why did America attack Iraq without the approval of UNO? 2) Where is Osama? 3) Why does America support Pakistan so much? Bush: you are an intelligent student John....(just then the bell for recess rang) Oh dear students--we will continue after the recess is over. [After the recess] Bush: ok children where were we? Yes, so anybody wants to ask any question? Samantha raises her hand Bush : What;s your name? Samantha : Sir, I am Samantha. I have 5 questions. 1) Why did America attack Iraq without the approval of UNO? 2) Where is Osama? 3) Why do America support Pakistan so much? 4) Why did recess bell rang 20 mins before the schedule...

Dream Journal: The Underwater Wizard (December 10, 2008)

DREAM  There once lived a mysterious hermit who turned out to be a magician. His tragic purpose was to prevent evil from happening, but at a great cost--the lives of those who helped him. This fabled wizard was said to hold great healing powers. Young people often went in search of the wizard to help them a cure for some kind medieval malady that they contracted. (BTW, we are set in the 16th century, Redmond.)Smallpox, Collera, abortions, and unknown diseases were common reasons of misadventurers to attempt to find him. Some just went for the thrill of it. The myth remained alive over the years because every once in a great while, kids who went in search of him, never returned... This is the story of my involvement with him. One day, near Christmas, I attended a stake choir festival for young adults. This didn't seem to be just any ordinary choir concert. The city pulled out all the stops! There were imported organs, professional sound and lighting, and the most e...

Terrorist Attack in Mumbai - The Indian 9/11

News Report via NYT Source . Photos via getwonder.com . (Warning: Some images are graphic.) Pakistani Elect - Victims or Secret Supporters? Pakistan's president claims that the Mumbai, India attacks were directed not only at India, but also at the peace process. [We are no to blame! We are victims too! Please continue sending us money Barak!] President Zardari of Pakistani is kinda shady. We've seen this kind of empty apology during peace talks many times before. Frankly, I don't like him. I know he was democratically elected, but still, that doesn't mean that he is above corruption. Zardari seems typical of the Middle Eastern political scene - corrupt to the core and trying to put a nice sorry face to the West so they can continue to get the Billions of dollars in aid to be siphoned off to some Swiss account. Nevertheless, I feel like it is important to support the democratically elected government in Pakistan and not erroneously and somewhat irresp...

The Unconditional Love of God

3 Nephi 13:19  states: "No man can serve two masters; for either he will  love  the one and  hate  the other, or else he will  hold to  the one and  despise  the other. Ye cannot serve God and Mammon." In this LDS scripture mastery verse, Jesus of Nazareth is teaching his gospel to the Nephites just as he did with the Jews in Matthew 6. After some analytical interpretation of this verse, it was impressed upon me that even though we may reject God at certain times or in certain aspects of our lives, God will never stop reaching out to his children in love. The Savior seems to repeat himself in the middle part of the verse. Or he is trying to communicate two separate ideas. In the first phrase, the Savior refers to "[loving] the one and [hating] the other". I believe "the one", in this case, refers to God while "the other" implies Satan. I understand the scripture this way because the emotions described therein can be felt recipro...

How to Slay the Dragon

The following was inspired by a discussion I enjoyed with my Raintree Roommate, Chris Hightower, at his mom's house for Thanksgiving dinner. MY THOUGHT: In dreams, dragons can represent the unconscious. Most people think they need to SLAY their dragon in order to dominate their subconscious mind. What most people don't know is that success can also come from taking consistent steps further and further away from the danger or threat until the it is merely a distant memory. The Secret, as they say, is to throw out your desires to the universe & hopefully watch as results come back to you. (This sounds a lot like the power of prayer to me.) ANALYSIS: I should not be as content with my life as I seem to be. There is nothing to justify my numbing complacency, because of which I feel blissfully paralyzed. It is true that am not engaged in any righteous work to satisfy my expenditure of time. The only explanation I have to rationalized this is that the Adversary ...

Dream Journal: The Pills of Life (December 8, 2008)

I needed pills to survive in space. Somehow, no one needed spacesuits. By the year 2333, the world's population moved to space. After searching for another 500 years or so, mankind discovered and inhabited a distant planet with all the resources we required, save oxygen. We were, however, able to manufacture O2 on our new planet but not enough to sustain the entire population. Recently, scientists developed a set of pills as a makeshift solution to our predicament. The first pill enables space travelers to make maximum use of the oxygen carried by the blood to the body's cells. In other words, someone who used to be able to hold their breath for 30 seconds could now essentially hold it for 30 hours. The second pill slowed the heart while stimulating receptors on the nerves and muscles so that the body could perform normal tasks with minimal blood flow. I fell in with a pair of illegal card gamblers and convinced them to continue to supply me with pills--as lo...

We are OFFICIALLY in a 2008 RECESSION

A 9% [680 point] drop in the American Stock Market broke the proverbial bears back, yesterday, when the National Bureau of Economic Research officially declared that the US is experiencing a "recession". The New York Times has the full story . What is a recession? By popular definition a recession is two consecutive quarters of GDP loss. Unfortunately, we don't have the resources to immediately evaluate the state of our domestic economy. Therefore, it takes us months to determine whether or not we have actually been experiencing a recession or not. It turns out that we have, in fact, been in a recession since the last quarter of 2007. How long will we be in this recession? "Some people in the US say it could last for 3-4 quarters...This recession is compared to that of 2000-01 and 1969-70." Citation With any luck we'll be out of it before too long. However, this recession may be incomparable to any other we've experienced in the memo...

Funny Images from Around the Web (December 1, 2008)

I've spent quite a few hours alone watching movies during this last Thanksgiving week. The Dark Knight was INCREDIBLE having seen it once already. I admit, I was weirded out when I watched it for the first time in theaters with Bryson. I was disturbed to the core by how dark and eerily plausible the whole thing was. This time, I went in already having prepared myself for the darkness by compartmentalizing my brain. I said to myself, I will not concentrate on the disturbing images and themes, but instead, discover and appreciate what else this film has to offer. I was blown away! THERE WAS NOT A MINUTE OF THE 2 1/2 HOUR LONG MOVIE THAT DIDN'T MOVE THE PLOT AND MESSAGES ALONG! ( See my tribute to Batman in a previous blog entry. ) Anyway, aside from The Dark Knight, I watched a lot of comedies. I was much less impressed. Not impressed at all really. In order for a comedy to be funny to me, it has to reflect and satire real life people and situations. It seems like ...
