Today, members of our ward volunteered at the MTC referral center. It was wonderful, as always. When we walked in, the lead RC teacher was getting ready to prepare a big training for us and then noticed me among the group. Letting some air quickly release he said, "oh, Bryan's old-school. If you have any questions, he can help you." And that was the last we saw of him.
I thought it was a little unfair that the others didn't get the full RC experience just because I was among them. Fortunately, our ward mission leader was present and took the reigns.
I brought along my bound copy of the Conference Ensign and read a talk or two. It was the perfect source of inspiration to look at between calls.
I handled about 4 Spanish calls, all of which reminded me of how wonderful sharing the gospel is. It's easy to forget here in Provo that there are families earnestly searching for the truths of the gospel. My favorite call was from a family man living in Columbus, OH. He told me about how he visited a christian church today and was left wanting. He described how when he and his family crossed the thresh-hold of the church, it felt like the Spirit stayed behind at the door.
My last call was from a 19-year-old named Cristian from Austin, TX. (From my experience assisting sister missionaries with this problem, I'd say that he kind of had a thing for me.) How to I feel to have been picked up on by a guy? It's not a bad thing. In retrospect, I actually feel quick flattered that he thought so highly of me. I think it's always nice to be appreciated.
I never did get to volunteer at the referral center. Sounds...interesting. I always went and let the new Italian missionaries practice giving me the discussions. Which was always amusing, and usually quite helpful.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great experience for all of you Bryan! And such wonderful timing right before the holidays too! I'd love to see you go a few times a month actually! I think it's always the best boost spiritually and the rewards are usually immediate!
ReplyDeleteI went to the RC once. I got no incoming calls, and the outbound calls went very poorly. I liked going to the TRC better. Except no flirting with the Elders.
ReplyDeleteBryan, great post and great photos. It is wonderful that you are such a "ring leader" for your ward in service. Keep up the good work!!
