50 things we learned in 2009

Image  Source We may have known some of them, but we didn’t know that we knew them. 1. Domestic pigs can quickly learn how mirrors work and use them to find food. 2. Grumpy people think more clearly because negative moods trigger more attentive, careful thinking. 3. High cholesterol levels in midlife are associated with an increased risk of Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia later in life. 4. Analysis of Greenland ice samples shows Europe froze solid in less than 12 months 12,800 years ago, partly due to a slowdown of the Gulf Stream. Once triggered, the cold persisted for 1,300 years. 5. One mutated gene is the reason humans have language, and chimpanzees, our closest relative, do not. 6. Obesity in teenage girls may increase their risk of later developing multiple sclerosis. 7. A fossil skeleton of an Aardonyx celestae dinosaur discovered in South Africa appears to be the missing link between the earliest dinosaurs that walked on two legs and the larg...

How To Avoiding Camera Loss

Have you lost your camera recently?  Are you planning a big trip? Anyone can be a victim of discouragement and despair of camera loss. "How can I prevent camera loss?"  I hear you. Unfortunately, you can't.  But you can do something to encourage its safe return.  All you have to do is take some photos which you never delete from your camera so when someone finds your camera at the bottom of the gorilla pit they are able to locate you and return the lost property to its rightful owner. Is Paying For College Really Worth It?

Click to Enbiggen Is going to college really worth it? Probably so, but economists have been arguing the point for 30 years. Most studies show that college-educated workers make far more money in the course of their lifetimes. Still, that evidence isn’t totally cut and dry: What do you really learn in college? Is what you learned in college really what’s producing the value? Or is it simply the mere fact of having a college degree? Should there be an alternative to college?… Currently, there aren't many alternatives.  There are college dropouts who either become entrepreneurs or are sickeningly creative and don't need what universities have to offer.  There are corporate universities which train employees to master task-specific skills.  Master-apprentice relationships do exists, but not really in the corporate world.  If you are really resourceful you can self-educate on the web.  Computer programmers do that.  I imagine, as technology make...

Lil’ Alicia Keys On The Cosby Show

“ This is soul diva Alicia Keys before she was famous bouncing on Bill Cosby’s knee . The Empire State Of Mind singer was just four-years-old when she appeared on the Cosby Show with the comic legend who played family man Cliff Huxtable. Keys had just a brief appearance on screen as she took part in a sleepover with pals of the Huxtables’ daughter Rudy. Speaking of her appearance on the U.S. show, Keys said: ‘It was a really, really good memory for me. The whole cast was so cool. We would sit on that big, huge couch and stuff and we all had to sit on Cosby’s knee. He always tried to knock us off of his knee with the bucking horse thing. Of course, my favorite part was winning the game, because I was the winner.” ( 2 minute 41 seconds .) Slumber Party , Season 1 Ep. 22
